BAGHDAD, Iraq โ A 47-year-old woman from the Sheikhan district in northern Nineveh province has tested positive for hemorrhagic fever, according to a source at the Nineveh Health Directorate. The woman sought treatment on August 24 at Ibn Sina Hospital in Mosul as a suspected case. Medical teams sent her blood sample to the Central Public Health Laboratory in Baghdad for testing.
Laboratory results announced Saturday confirmed the presence of the hemorrhagic fever virus. The patient was then transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital in Mosul, which handles cases of epidemic diseases.
Health authorities said disinfection work is continuing at animal shelters in the area and that surveillance teams are operating in the field. No further details on the patient's condition were immediately available.
