Drunk father attempts to stab infant in Mosul, police rescue child

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A drunk father attempted to slit the throat of his newborn baby with a sharp object in Mosul, police said, adding that officers intervened in time and rescued the child. The incident occurred in the Hamayat police station area in the Maalallat district of Mosul, in Nineveh province. According to a source at the Nineveh Police Directorate, an emergency police unit responded alongside patrol teams from the Hamayat station and took control of the situation. The baby was rescued and is reported to be in stable condition. The source said the necessary legal proceedings have been initiated against the father. Footage circulating on social media showed two officers from the emergency unit holding the infant in front of a patrol vehicle.
