PARIS, France โ An extreme heatwave has led to the cancellation of several events during the 45th annual Music Festival across France. Red alerts were issued for 35 regions, with temperatures forecast to reach 41 degrees Celsius in some areas.
Authorities have banned alcohol consumption in public spaces, with the Health Minister stating that alcohol increases the risk of dehydration during extreme heat. Major cities, including Paris, Lyon, and Strasbourg, opted to modify rather than cancel events to prevent uncontrolled gatherings.
In Paris and its surrounding areas, 4,800 police and gendarmerie officers and 2,500 health personnel were deployed. Restrictions on gatherings were also implemented along certain sections of the Seine River.
Meteorologists noted that the heatwave, which has also affected the United Kingdom and Spain, is intensified by the effects of climate change.
