CAIRO, Egypt — CAIRO — Hamas announced on Sunday evening that it had approved the roadmap for the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza plan. The decision was made during a meeting under Egyptian auspices in Cairo between the movement's delegation, Peace Council Coordinator Nikolay Mladenov and delegations from mediating countries. The Hamas delegation was led by Khalil al-Hayya, who said the discussions covered key issues and that the roadmap was accepted in line with the Palestinian people's interests. The movement said the roadmap was approved to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the complete withdrawal of the Israeli army from the area, guaranteed urgent and sustained humanitarian aid, the start of work by the administrative commission, and the completion of reconstruction. Hamas also reaffirmed full commitment to the first-phase ceasefire agreement reached in Sharm el-Sheikh, saying it had complied with the exchange of prisoners and bodies and the halt of military operations. The group accused Israel of failing to implement the first phase and of openly rejecting the roadmap. U.S. special envoy Jared Kushner held intensive talks in Egypt with Mladenov and representatives of mediating countries aimed at accelerating the second phase. Egypt, Turkey and Qatar reiterated their support for the U.S. efforts to consolidate calm in Gaza and facilitate the transition to reconstruction.
