EU and UK impose coordinated sanctions on Russia over cyberattacks

ANBAR, Iraq — The European Union and the United Kingdom announced coordinated sanctions against Russia, targeting individuals and entities linked to cyber operations attributed to Moscow. The measures focus on the Federal Security Service (FSB) and figures connected to the GRU military intelligence unit, as well as companies used to carry out the attacks. Asset freezes and travel bans have been imposed on those designated as responsible for the cyber activities. The EU and UK said the operations posed a serious threat to European security and violated international law, framing the joint action as a unified response to hostile activity on European soil. The coordinated package marks one of the first instances in which Brussels and London have aligned their sanctions lists specifically on cyber-related designations tied to Russian intelligence services.
