Iran rejects reports of US attack on Bushehr nuclear plant

TEHRAN, Iran — TEHRAN — Officials in the Iranian port city of Bushehr dismissed social media reports of a US strike on the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, saying the facility is fully secure with no radiation leaks in the surrounding area. Fars News Agency reported that the false claims, circulating Sunday evening, alleged the plant's waste facility had been targeted and that radioactive material had spread into the environment. Fars called the reports baseless. Bushehr Deputy Governor Ehsan Cihanian said the allegations were untrue and stressed that no radioactive release or leak had occurred at the waste site. Cihanian added that the plant and its associated waste facilities are operating normally and safely. Located on Iran's Persian Gulf coast, the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is the country's first and largest nuclear energy facility. It was built and brought online with Russian technical assistance.
