Erbil's Traffic Directorate will begin fining drivers who throw rubbish from vehicles anywhere in the city, with penalties set at 40,000 Iraqi dinars for violations detected through speed cameras. The new rule takes effect tomorrow at 18.00.
The Kurdistan Regional Government's Ministry of Interior announced on May 12 that drivers who litter from vehicles would face fines. Director General Hemin Mirani said at the time that throwing rubbish would no longer be treated as normal behavior.
The measure is part of a wider effort to curb public littering and tighten enforcement of traffic-related rules in Erbil. Authorities said the cameras will be used to identify offending vehicles and apply the penalty directly.
