ERBIL, Iraq โ Erbil's Directorate of Public Security said it has detained a suspect in an attack that disrupted work at the Green Belt project site and injured three employees of the project's contractor. In a written statement, the directorate said a group of citizens confronted workers employed by the contractor during construction activities in the project's designated area.
The suspect, identified by the initials M.T.T., was taken into custody by Erbil security forces under instructions from the investigating judge, the directorate said. According to the statement, the individual had opened fire during the confrontation.
The directorate said the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident and to carry out the required legal proceedings. No further details on the injured workers or the wounded were immediately available.
The Green Belt project is being carried out in an area within Erbil's administrative boundaries, near the town of Bashe, according to the directorate.
