Drone debris ignites farmland fire in Duhok province, no casualties reported

DUHOK, Iraq — Debris from an unidentified drone crashed near the village of Kindi Kli in the Amadiya district of Duhok province on Sunday, igniting fires in surrounding farmland and grassland, local sources and eyewitnesses said. No casualties or injuries were reported, according to the accounts. Villagers and response teams moved to the area and contained the blaze to a limited zone, the sources said. The cause of the crash and whether the aircraft was shot down by air defense systems remained unclear. In a separate incident, two drones were brought down in the nearby Bacil area of the same district on June 7, with no casualties reported at the time. The latest crash comes amid heightened drone activity across the Kurdistan Region in recent days, with several unmanned aircraft reportedly intercepted over Erbil in the early hours of the night.
