DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Kuwait's military said air defense systems intercepted missile and drone attacks on Sunday, with sirens sounding across several parts of the country. The army said the alerts coincided with Iranian-origin attacks, and reported that explosion sounds were heard near the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in the north, coinciding with air defense operations.
The developments came as military tensions between Iran and the United States escalated, with multiple military sites in the region coming under fire. U.S. Central Command said earlier Sunday it had completed a new wave of strikes on targets in central and southern Iran, marking the eighth night of operations.
Iranian state television, citing the country's military, reported that two U.S. bases in Kuwait had been targeted. Kuwait's army did not immediately provide further details on the damage or potential casualties from the intercepted attacks.
