BAGHDAD, Iraq โ A group of armed individuals robbed jewelry shops in the Sharqat district of Kirkuk province, according to local security sources. One suspect was later detained in the area known as Tabibler Street after authorities linked him both to the robbery and to an earlier assassination attempt on a security officer.
The suspect was identified as a member of the armed group that carried out the robbery and was found to have a direct connection to the attack on the security officer, a local security source said. Iraqi intelligence units subsequently pinpointed the location where the remaining suspects had fled.
A wide security cordon has been imposed in the area, and operational preparations are underway to capture the remaining fugitives. Saladin security sources said intelligence and field operations will continue until all perpetrators are brought before justice.
Provincial authorities have not yet released an official statement on the final toll of the operation or the number of suspects still at large.
