Diyala Provincial Council opens disciplinary probe into member over social media posts

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Diyala Provincial Council has ordered a disciplinary investigation into one of its members, Derya Hayrullah Rashid, over her social media activity, the council's presidency said. Council President Omar Maan Salih al-Kureyvi issued an administrative order establishing an investigative commission chaired by Turki Ceddan Aabd, head of the council's Integrity Committee. Members include the council's secretary general, Fadi Mohammed Yassin, and Rejad Khalid Jihad, who heads the Security and Defense Committee. The commission will review Rashid's social media posts and recent conduct under the framework of the 2008 Law of Provinces No. 21 and the council's 2024 internal regulations, according to the order. Its findings are to be submitted to the council's presidential body as a recommendation. Rashid had accused some council members and officials of praising others for personal gain and called for certain allegations to be clarified.
