BAQUBA, Iraq โ€” Drivers in Diyala province are using WhatsApp groups to locate gasoline stations with available fuel, as supply shortages continue to produce long lines at filling stations across the province. Through the groups, users share real-time information on which stations have fuel, the type of gasoline available, queue lengths and live photos or videos from the sites. Some groups have grown to more than 1,600 members, with users distinguishing between regular and improved gasoline to avoid wasted trips. Crowds remained heavy at stations in the Ishnayna area of Baquba and in Zaytun in the Khales district. Residents said that even after authorities announced the crisis had eased in Baghdad and other provinces, many private stations in Diyala remained empty. Drivers are also tracking fuel tanker arrivals through the groups before any official announcements are made. Official figures show Diyala has fewer than 20 state-run stations and more than 140 private ones. Although authorities have said the province receives 1.25 million liters of gasoline per day, residents argue the supply is insufficient to meet demand. No further details on additional supply measures were immediately available.
