U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has provided details of its maritime operations in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route that carries roughly one-fifth of the world's oil supply. In a daily briefing published June 8, CENTCOM said 42 ships carrying humanitarian aid were permitted to transit the waterway, while 134 commercial vessels were redirected. Seven ships that failed to comply with maritime blockade orders targeting Iran were stopped, according to the statement. The Mariviks oil tanker, traveling from the Gulf of Oman toward Iran, was among the vessels blocked from passing through, the briefing noted. CENTCOM regularly announces ongoing maritime interdiction operations in the area, including ships turned back and others granted passage based on their cargo and declared destinations.
