Researchers in Canada have developed a new diagnostic technique capable of detecting melanoma in its earliest stages by identifying thermal differences between cancer cells and healthy tissue.
The system, described as a 'smart tattoo,' utilizes nanoparticles implanted under the skin combined with ultrafast imaging to detect the increased energy consumption and heat production characteristic of malignant cells.
In laboratory models, the technology successfully identified tumors only four days after their formation. This precision allows the system to reveal invisible tumors smaller than five millimeters, surpassing the capabilities of traditional thermal imaging.
The study's results provide a foundation for the technology to transition into human clinical trials.
