Body of 15-year-old boy recovered from Euphrates River in western Anbar

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A 15-year-old boy who drowned in the Euphrates River in western Anbar has been recovered after a joint search by firefighter divers and river police, according to Anbar Police Directorate sources. The boy, identified as Sattar Naím, fell into the river in the Fırat district, prompting a missing-person report and a search operation that located his body within roughly half an hour. The body has been handed over to the relevant authorities to complete legal and administrative procedures. Officials noted that during Iraq's hot summer months, children and young people in several cities sometimes enter rivers and irrigation canals without supervision, contributing to a rise in drowning cases. Authorities urged residents to avoid swimming in unsafe areas and not to leave children unattended near bodies of water.
