BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi security forces seized a stockpile of weapons and military ammunition from a farm belonging to a member of parliament in the Hit district of Anbar province, a security source said on Tuesday. The operation was carried out by a counterterrorism unit deployed from Baghdad, working jointly with the Anbar First Battalion of the provincial police.
The raid took place in the Muhammedi area, in western Anbar, where a ground search uncovered a large cache of weapons and military equipment. The source said the farm is owned by a sitting Iraqi lawmaker, without naming the legislator.
All the seized weapons and materiel were evacuated from the site, according to the source. Security forces remained in the area to continue search and inspection procedures following the operation, the source added, with no further details immediately available.
