Basra power plant knocked offline after fault on two lines

BASRA, Iraq — An electricity plant in Basra went offline on Wednesday after a fault developed on two of its lines, the city's Electricity Distribution Directorate said in a statement. The outage at the Al-Bahadriya plant affected the Avaysan, Zuhair transformer station, Al-Bahadriya, Seyyid Garib and Muhicran neighborhoods, the directorate said. Technical teams were deployed to the site and were carrying out maintenance and repair work to restore supply as quickly as possible, according to the statement. The directorate did not provide a timeline for when service would resume. The directorate apologized to residents for the disruption and said crews were working urgently to fix the fault and restore power.
