BAGHDAD, Iraq โ The Baghdad Operations Command said security authorities closed an unlicensed paint factory in the Abeydi area in eastern Baghdad and dismantled 47 unauthorized metal smelting sites. The operation was carried out by a commission formed under the Diwani Order, working with the National Security Service, the Rusafa Environmental Police, the Baghdad Environment Division and the New Baghdad Municipality.
The command said the facilities were shut down for failing to comply with relevant laws and regulations and for releasing emissions, gases and odors that harmed residents' health. Several people identified as operators of the sites were detained for violating the applicable rules, according to the statement.
Officials said the campaign marked the second day of work by the commission tasked under the order. No further details on the detentions or the volume of seized material were immediately available.
