Barzani welcomes Syrian Democratic Forces integration into Syrian army

ERBIL, Iraq — Kurdish Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani welcomed the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syrian government forces, calling recent implementation steps an important advance. In a post on X, Barzani expressed appreciation for Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa's approach to dialogue and reconciliation, and singled out SDF commander Mazloum Abdi for his role in moving the process forward. Barzani called on all Kurdish parties and Syria's other components to support the agreements, saying their full implementation would mark the start of a new phase in the country. He added that the rights of all citizens should be protected under the arrangement. Abdi had earlier announced that the SDF had been formally dissolved and folded into Syrian state institutions. His meeting with Syrian government chief Ahmed al-Sharaa took place in Damascus on Monday.
