BAHRAIN — Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani said at the United Nations that the security of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is a shared responsibility. He said the issue is fundamental to the supply of energy, food and medicine, as well as the orderly flow of global trade.
Al-Zayani said peace in the region requires addressing Iran’s nuclear program, missile capabilities and support for armed militias. He said the region’s peoples should be given the chance for peace, development and coexistence.
In his remarks, al-Zayani also referred to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, Security Council resolutions and the International Maritime Organization.
