Zawra opens 2026-27 preparations under new coach Basim Kasim

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi Stars League side Zawra Sports Club began preparations for the 2026-27 season on Saturday under newly appointed head coach Basim Kasim, with the first training session held at the club's facilities in Baghdad. Kasim, who was recently named Zawra's technical director, will lead the team through pre-season as it readies for the new league campaign. The technical staff said the program will be tailored to the coach's requirements to have the squad competitive for the upcoming season. Alongside the training schedule, the club's management has reinforced the squad by signing new players and renewing contracts with several members of last season's roster. Zawra finished the 2025-26 Iraqi Stars League in fourth place with 66 points. The club has set its sights on a higher finish and a title challenge in the coming season.
