Baghdad police arrest man for firing gun into the air

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Police in Baghdad's Karkh district arrested a man who fired a gun into the air for display, the Karkh Police Command announced. The statement said the operation was carried out under the supervision of Karkh Police Commander Major General Adnan Hasan Hamd, in line with directives from the Inspector of Police Affairs. Officers from the Abu Dshir police station, intelligence units and an emergency response team took part in the arrest. Police said the shooting occurred within the area of responsibility and that the suspect fired into the air for show. An investigation was opened, a specialized team set up and, after evidence was collected, the suspect's identity and location were identified, according to the statement. Following the required legal approvals, the man was taken into custody, faced legal action and was referred to the competent authorities to be held accountable, the command said.
