Iraq's meteorology agency says six cities to exceed 50°C on Wednesday

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Meteorological Directorate said temperatures will climb across the country on Wednesday, with six cities forecast to record highs above 50°C. The agency listed Basra, Maysan, Dhi Qar, Muthanna, Wasit and Najaf among the areas expected to see the highest readings, where thermometers are projected to reach or surpass 50°C. The same statement noted that the northern city of Kirkuk is moving out of the heat wave that pushed it above 40°C, with cooler conditions expected there. Officials urged residents, particularly in southern cities, to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during midday hours. Health authorities also reminded the public to take precautions against heatstroke and dehydration linked to the high temperatures.
