Baghdad Municipality Demolishes Illegal Event Hall in Green Zone District

Baghdad’s Al-Mansour district municipality has demolished an unauthorized event hall located in the Green Zone, citing significant violations of land-use regulations. Officials confirmed the structure was built in direct breach of a contract that restricted the site’s development exclusively to parkland. Safety inspections revealed that the facility was constructed using highly flammable sandwich panel materials, failing to meet the mandatory fire safety standards set by the Civil Defense Directorate. The municipality initiated the demolition process following the expiration of a legal notice period issued to the operators. Authorities confirmed that the structure was removed in full compliance with municipal building codes.
