Baghdad court sentences Karkh education director, staffer to four years for bribery

BAGHDAD, Iraq โ The Baghdad Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court has sentenced the director general of the Baghdad Karkh First Education Directorate and an employee of the same office to a combined four years of hard imprisonment for bribery.
According to a statement from the Judicial Press Office, the defendants demanded $50,000 in exchange for using their official influence to keep a complainant in his position after investigation committees had been established against him. The court found the bribery charge proven and imposed the hard prison sentence.
The ruling was issued under Article 2/1 of the amended Resolution No. 160 of 1983, along with Articles 47, 48 and 49 of the Penal Code. The Judicial Press Office did not immediately release further details on the investigation or evidence presented in the case.
