Iraq’s PM Sudani meets Qatar’s emir in Doha, urges dialogue between US and Iran

DOHA, Qatar — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani met with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Sunday at the Lusail Palace in Doha for an official discussion, according to a statement from Sudani's office. The two leaders stressed the need for the United States and Iran to adhere to dialogue and diplomacy, and called for the full implementation of the existing memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran. The meeting also addressed freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and support for regional stability, along with ways to expand bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. The Emir hosted Sudani and his delegation, expressing a desire to strengthen the fraternal ties between the two countries. Sudani conveyed condolences over the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and thanked the Qatari side for its warm reception. Attendees from Qatar included Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Amiri Diwan Chief Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khalifa. Iraq was represented by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and senior officials.
