BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” The US Embassy in Amman told American citizens on Sunday to stay away from Aqaba Airport and the city's seaport, citing unspecified security concerns. In an advisory, the embassy urged US nationals to refrain from traveling to both facilities until further notice and to continue following Jordanian authorities' security directions. The warning came a day after Washington issued a worldwide security alert saying intelligence indicators pointed to Iran potentially targeting US interests abroad in an unexpected escalation. The global notice offered no specific timing or locations for the alleged threat. According to the Associated Press, 16 US service members have been killed and more than 430 wounded since the start of the war with Iran on February 28. US Central Command had previously said two American soldiers died on Friday when US and partner forces repelled Iranian attacks involving ballistic missiles and drones. A third US service member remains missing, and four American soldiers were transferred to hospitals in Jordan for treatment.
