Argentina Football Association President Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia has rejected online conspiracy theories alleging that the national team deliberately lost the 2026 World Cup final to Spain. The final took place on July 19, 2026, with Spain winning its second world title under coach Luis de la Fuente.
In a statement, Tapia denied claims targeting the integrity of Argentinaโs players and coach Lionel Scaloni. He described the allegations as a campaign that went beyond sports criticism and damaged the playersโ character.
Tapia said the players had given their best on the field and that those making unsupported accusations owed them an apology. He also said those responsible for what he called unjust accusations should be held accountable.
