Apple's iPhone includes a Medical ID feature that allows emergency responders to access a user's basic health information even when the device is locked. The feature is built into the iPhone's Health app and does not require an additional application or device to set up. Users can enter chronic conditions, allergies, current medications and blood type, and designate emergency contacts. To make the data visible from the lock screen, the "Show When Locked" option must be enabled in the Medical ID setup. Once activated, the information can be reached without a passcode, enabling faster initial treatment for patients who are unconscious or unable to speak. In some countries, the Medical ID data is automatically transmitted to emergency dispatch centers during emergency calls. When the iPhone's Emergency SOS function is triggered, designated emergency contacts can also receive location updates. Apple advises users to review and refresh their Medical ID details periodically to keep the records accurate.
