Anbar seeks PMO revocation of Babylon provincial council decision on border areas

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Anbar province has formally asked the Iraqi Prime Minister's Office to overturn a decision by the Babylon Provincial Council that added areas within the boundaries of the Amid al-Suwayyid district to Babylon's administrative jurisdiction. In an official letter, the Anbar administration argued that the affected areas have fallen within Anbar's administrative borders for decades and are recorded as such in property title deeds. Anbar authorities said the contested regions align with long-standing administrative maps and official records that place them under Anbar. They maintain that the geographic and legal basis for the areas has been settled in earlier documentation. The Anbar administration has asked the Prime Minister's Office to declare the Babylon Provincial Council's decision invalid and to preserve the existing administrative boundaries. No response from the Prime Minister's Office or the Babylon Provincial Council was immediately available.
