AC Milan has dismissed head coach Massimiliano Allegri after the club failed to secure qualification for this season’s Champions League, following a 2-1 home defeat to Cagliari on the final day of Serie A. The result cost Milan a place in Europe’s most prestigious club competition and triggered a sweeping restructuring at the club.
Allegri returned to Milan in May last year, ending an 11-year absence from the club. His second spell was cut short after the team fell short of its main sporting objective this season.
RedBird Capital announced that it had decided, together with members of the board of directors, to undertake a comprehensive restructuring. As part of that move, CEO Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare and technical director Geoffrey Moncada were also removed from their posts.
