Woman wanted in Najaf arson death arrested in Diyala

NAJAF, Iraq — Iraqi security forces have arrested a foreign woman wanted in connection with a fire that killed her stepdaughter in Najaf, a security source in the city said. The suspect was detained in an operation in Diyala after returning to Iraq, the source said. The source identified the woman as an Iranian national who had previously fled to her country. The fire broke out earlier this year at the family home in Najaf, killing her stepdaughter and injuring her husband, according to the source. Security units set up an ambush in Diyala and arrested her after she entered the country, the source said. She was taken to a special detention center under tight security. The source said she will be referred to the judiciary after legal procedures are completed.
