The World Health Organization reported 452 confirmed Ebola cases in Central Africa, with 82 deaths attributed to the outbreak. Most cases have been identified in the Democratic Republic of Congo, though the epidemic has spread in limited fashion to neighboring Uganda, where 19 confirmed cases and two deaths have been recorded. The outbreak continues to be concentrated primarily in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the WHO. The organization has declared the situation a public health emergency of international concern. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned that without stringent control measures, the current spread could reach dimensions comparable to the major epidemic that occurred between 2014 and 2016.
