Water Resources minister sacks project director in Dhi Qar

DHI QAR, Iraq — Water Resources Minister Mitsena al-Tamimi dismissed Ahmed Cabir Zidan, the director of the Hurriya–Dagara Project in Dhi Qar, on Wednesday and appointed another person in his place. The ministry said the decision was taken during an on-site inspection. Tamimi’s visit covered the districts of Dagara, Sadr al-Dagara, Afek and Al Bedir, where he reviewed local water conditions and residents’ needs. He also ordered an increase in water releases into the Shatt al-Hilla. The ministry said the step was aimed at improving the delivery of drinking water and meeting the needs of the areas benefiting from the project. It said the dismissal came after accusations of neglect of duty and multiple complaints from local residents.
