Water Releases to Support Iraq’s Summer Farming Plan

Iraq’s Ministry of Water Resources said it will secure the water releases needed to carry out the summer farming plan successfully, working in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture. The move is aimed at supporting farmers and improving the country’s agricultural conditions amid continuing pressure from drought. The minister called on farmers to comply with the water shares allocated to them. He said the two ministries share responsibility for supporting farmers and strengthening agriculture across Iraq. He said years of drought have hurt production and undermined farmers’ targets. He added that modern irrigation methods would help reduce water losses. Water releases are being planned according to agricultural needs in each province, the minister said. Ministry teams will work directly with farmers in the field, while provincial governments are expected to closely monitor the distribution of water.
