SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq — The Sulaymaniyah Water Directorate announced temporary water outages in several neighborhoods following a failure in the Duken–Sulaymaniyah main pipeline.
Director Bekhiar Tahir stated during a press conference on Saturday that the damage occurred in the Qolereysi neighborhood after a piece of construction machinery broke the main pipe. Repair teams were dispatched immediately to address the failure.
The outages have affected the Qerge, Sitwan, Ibrahim Ahmed, and Kurdsat neighborhoods. Tahir said water service would be restored as soon as the repairs are completed.
An investigation is underway to determine responsibility for the accident and to initiate legal action against those who damaged the pipe. Following the repairs and stabilization of the line, the directorate plans to activate three new pumps to improve the water supply.
