US Treasury Secretary Says Strait of Hormuz to Reopen Within Two Days

WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that a ceasefire agreement with Iran, likely lasting between 30 and 60 days, could be reached today or tomorrow. The agreement is expected to include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Bessent noted that Washington continues to maintain pressure on Tehran, citing Iranian food inflation rates between 150% and 180% and the government's inability to pay security forces' salaries. The Secretary added that the reopening of the strait is expected to lower energy prices. A US official reported progress in talks between Oman and Iran regarding the strait, with Washington anticipating a swift resolution. The official stated that the blockade on Iranian ports would be lifted immediately following an announcement ensuring the unobstructed resumption of commercial traffic. According to a diplomat from a mediating country, Iranian negotiators are awaiting final approval from the Supreme National Security Council. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that negotiations with the US are being conducted with the approval of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
