WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said some Gulf partners have not been fully transparent with Washington on sanctions against Iran. Speaking at a US Senate hearing, he said many Gulf countries have not been sufficiently open about transactions involving the banking system.
Bessent said the United States is working closely with its allies in the Gulf Cooperation Council and that they are now more willing than before to share information on bank accounts linked to Iranian regime officials. He made the remarks weeks after the Treasury Department announced what it called an “economic rage” campaign aimed at disrupting Iranian financial networks.
His comments came a day after the department said it imposed sanctions on four cryptocurrency platforms in Iran, including the country’s largest platform, Nobitex, as well as some of the companies’ executives. The department said the move was intended to block Tehran from using digital assets to evade sanctions.
