US strikes Iran's Kish Island again, days after ceasefire collapse

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Two US missiles struck an area near Masin village on Iran's Kish Island in the south of the country on Thursday evening, the Iran-aligned Tasnim news agency reported. The attack came hours after a similar US bombardment near the island's Suze coastal area. Iran's Health Ministry said 55 people have been killed and 629 wounded in US airstrikes that began on June 27. Washington has carried out waves of strikes on targets inside Iran, while Tehran has responded with ballistic missiles and drones against what it says are US-linked military bases and facilities in the region. The escalation followed a memorandum of understanding signed in June to halt fighting and negotiate a broader agreement. US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 that the ceasefire had ended after attacks he said Tehran had carried out against ships in the Strait of Hormuz, and US strikes inside Iran resumed. Washington has demanded that Iran halt attacks on shipping and allow passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has insisted on maintaining a mechanism to regulate vessel traffic through the waterway, which lies off its own coast.
