US Embassy Warns Citizens Against Travel to Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad issued a written statement on Wednesday advising American citizens not to travel to Iraq. The embassy cited serious risks to public safety, noting that Iran-linked groups have launched attacks against targets within Iraq and the surrounding region. U.S. citizens currently in the country are advised to remain highly vigilant, monitor local media, and follow the instructions of local authorities. The embassy warned that travel disruptions and airspace closures could occur without prior notice. The U.S. Department of State maintains a Level 4 "Do Not Travel" advisory for Iraq. This warning applies to all purposes of travel due to risks of terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflict, and civil unrest. Additionally, the embassy noted that the U.S. government's ability to provide emergency services to its citizens within Iraq remains limited.
