BAGHDAD, Iraq โ The US dollar slipped against the Iraqi dinar in evening trading on Baghdad and Erbil's parallel currency markets, extending a downward trend that followed the Central Bank's earlier statements. In the Karkh district of Baghdad, both buying and selling rates for the dollar declined compared with the previous close.
Exchange offices in Erbil reported a similar pattern, according to local market operators. Traders said prices fluctuated during the day before selling pressure became more pronounced in the evening hours, with the gap between the official rate and the free market continuing to narrow.
Market participants attributed the move to supply-demand dynamics and dollar sales through banking channels. Daily closing figures are expected to be used as a reference when trading opens on the following day.
