BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” A member of Iraq's parliament from Karbala, Hamed Abbas al-Musavi, said on July 4, 2026, that the Karbala Provincial Council has rejected the appointment of a district administrator from outside Jed'ala Gharbi district. Al-Musavi said the decision ignored candidates put forward by the district's notables, tribal leaders and community figures, adding that those nominees were known for their competence and integrity and met legal and administrative requirements. The lawmaker argued the appointment was inconsistent with principles of merit and fairness, and called on the provincial council to reconsider the decision and respond to the district's residents. He urged Karbala's members of parliament and council members to adopt a unified position and find a responsible solution that preserves social peace. Al-Musavi also asked security agencies to take necessary measures for a planned civilian protest by district residents. He said the matter would continue to be pursued through constitutional and oversight channels.
