BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” U.S. Central Command has disclosed details of airstrikes on Iran carried out the previous night at the direction of President Donald Trump, saying the operation targeted the major port city of Bandar Abbas on the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM said the strikes destroyed Iranian command centers, air defense facilities, missile and drone capabilities, and coastal surveillance sites. A separate 90-minute wave of strikes the same night destroyed coastal defense systems and cruise missiles on Greater Tunb Island in the Persian Gulf, the command added. Bandar Abbas hosts Iran's largest port as well as significant naval facilities belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to the statement. Trump reiterated threats this week to target Iran's energy sector and signaled that bridges could be hit in the coming week. The 1949 Geneva Conventions require the protection of infrastructure vital to the civilian population. International law experts in the United States have warned that strikes on such targets could constitute war crimes.
