BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi forces affiliated with the National Security Advisory arrested a young man in Dhi Qar province on charges of conducting propaganda for the banned Baath Party, authorities said.
The operation followed monitoring of social media and digital content, according to security officials. Investigators said the suspect had posted material calling for the revival of the Baath Party, which was dissolved after the 2003 ouster of Saddam Hussein.
Security sources said the arrest was carried out under Iraq's counterterrorism laws. Officials added that investigators are examining the suspect's links and possible associates as part of an ongoing inquiry.
Propaganda and organizational activity for the Baath Party are punishable by heavy penalties under Iraqi law. Authorities said operations against similar activity will continue.
