The United Nations Development Programme announced a partnership with the Kurdistan Regional Government aimed at strengthening crisis coordination and supporting vulnerable communities in the region. UNDP provided strategic advisory support to the Kurdistan Regional Government's Joint Crisis Coordination Center, including an assessment of the center's institutional and operational preparedness capacity. Sarwa Rasul, Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Center, said the partnership has enhanced crisis response coordination and improved the region's capacity to assist vulnerable populations. Teton Mitra, UNDP's resident representative in Iraq, said strong institutions provide the foundation for effective crisis response and preparedness. Mitra expressed pride in the long-standing partnership and said the initiative aims to strengthen coordination systems, operational capacities and institutional resilience. The region faces growing challenges from humanitarian, security and displacement pressures. The initiative is intended to support implementation of the UN cooperation framework for sustainable development in Iraq.
