UK firm Ambrey joins rescue of drifting oil tanker off Oman

British maritime security company Ambrey said it is taking part in rescue operations for the oil tanker Caroline BZ, which has been drifting off Oman. In statements to Reuters and Agence France-Presse, the company said it is coordinating with relevant parties in Oman and running a spill-response operation with support from an international company. Ambrey said salvage vessels are heading to the area to assist the Caroline BZ, and that specialists have boarded the vessel to assess the situation. The company describes itself as one of the world's leading firms in maritime security and risk management. The tanker reported a malfunction off the coast of Yemen on June 8, with initial reports indicating damage and water ingress following an explosion. The vessel later began leaking oil as it drifted near the Hallaniyat Islands off the Omani coast. The tanker is reported to be carrying Russian crude and appears on Western sanctions lists, with a cargo of roughly one million barrels. Omani authorities have said the spill has reached approximately 390 square kilometers and that oil has reached sections of the country's coastline.
