BAGHDAD, Iraq โ US Central Command (CENTCOM) said 64 commercial vessels have changed course and three have been neutralized since the maritime blockade against Iran was resumed, according to the command's announcement. CENTCOM added that operations targeting shipping traffic under the blockade are continuing.
Relations between Washington and Tehran have entered a new escalation phase as the dialogue channel between the two sides has stalled, mutual accusations have intensified and military intervention has returned to the agenda. The two sides have advanced differing conditions in their dispute over the Strait of Hormuz and freedom of navigation, while diplomatic efforts have produced no results.
The Turkish-language report said tension in the region is deepening amid increased military activity and reciprocal statements from both governments.
