BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Britain's ambassador to Iraq, Irfan Sadiq, has visited Diyala province for the first time at ambassadorial level in 37 years, meeting with Governor Adnan al-Shimari to discuss investment opportunities. Speaking at a joint press conference, al-Shimari described the visit as a step toward strengthening ties with the British Embassy in Baghdad. He said Diyala remains secure and open to all diplomatic missions despite recent incidents in the province. Al-Shimari said the talks reviewed the province's overall situation and economic potential, noting that around 78 percent of the population works in agriculture. Ambassador Sadiq said the visit was aimed at better understanding Diyala's priorities and avenues for cooperation, adding that British firms have experience in clean energy, infrastructure, water and electricity. Sadiq said the security environment has increased the interest of British companies in investing in Iraq. No further details on specific projects or timelines were immediately available.
