Iraqi Premier League clubs see mixed transfer moves as players, officials weigh deals

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi Premier League clubs moved on multiple fronts during the transfer window, with one signing confirmed, another deal stalled and a national team forward filing a formal complaint with the Iraqi Football Association. Gas Al-Shimal completed the signing of Syrian international defender Yusuf Mohammed, who had played for Bahrain's Al-Ahli since 2021. The club said the contract was finalized as part of preseason preparations and coordinated with its Syrian head coach, Raef Mohammed. A separate move involving Iraqi player Ibrahim Tomio remains unresolved. Al-Talaba completed the required administrative steps and arranged the agreed payments, but the player, who initially expressed interest in joining the club, later stepped back. The club said the final decision rests with the player's wife, who has not approved the transfer. Iraq national team and Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya forward Aymen Hussein filed a formal complaint with the Iraqi Football Association over delayed financial dues. Separately, Jordanian professional Mihand Abu Taha completed a transfer to Saudi club Neom after a season with Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya.
